Cost & insurance · San Antonio

What's covered, what isn't, and what it will cost you.Your exact number, in writing, before you commit.

Here's the short version. Some of what we do is covered by insurance, and some of it isn't. We'll tell you exactly which is which before you commit to anything.

We verify your benefits at no charge, we apply whatever credit your plan generates, and we put your number in writing. No guessing, and no surprises at the front desk.

What you can count on

Four things that hold true, whatever brings you in.

  1. You'll have a real number in writing before you owe anything. We examine you, review your imaging, verify your benefits, apply your credit, and give you the figure. Nothing is quoted off a menu.
  2. We verify your insurance at no charge, and we apply whatever coverage your plan generates toward your care.
  3. Your exam decides your treatment. About one in five people who ask us about decompression are told it isn't right for them. Care here is earned by your exam and your imaging.
  4. You only pay for care you actually receive. Texas law requires care to be prorated, and we follow it to the letter. If you paid ahead and treatment stops being right for you, the unused portion comes back to you.

DRX9000 spinal decompression

What insurance does, what it doesn't, and how you'll know your number.

The decompression program isn't a covered benefit.

No plan covers it: not commercial insurance, not Medicare. That isn't a Texas Spine Clinic policy. It's how every carrier classifies it.

With commercial insurance, you'll usually get a credit.

If you carry a commercial health plan, we can usually generate an insurance credit through it, which we apply against your cost. How big that credit is depends on your specific benefits, and we check it before you commit to anything.

Plan on an out-of-pocket investment, and expect to know exactly what it is before you commit.

If you have Medicare

The program isn't covered. If you also carry a secondary major health plan, we can usually generate a credit through it. We check before you commit.

How you'll get your number

It takes two visits. At your $49 DRX9000 consultation you're examined, and if you're a candidate you feel your first treatment on the machine. Then we send you for an MRI, or review the one you bring. At your second visit we put your imaging up on the screen and go through it with you, verify your benefits, calculate your credit, and give you your investment in writing. Most patients start their care that same day.

How you invest is your call

Most patients settle the program at the start and earn a time-of-service discount for it. If you'd rather spread it out, we work with CareCredit and Affirm and offer in-office payment plans.

How you'll know it's working

We make that call around the second week, after eight to ten sessions. A spine that's going to respond has usually started to show it by then, and we measure it: pain, how often it comes, and how long you can stand, walk and sit.

The $49 DRX9000 consultation includes three things: your initial examination, a review of your imaging with the doctor, and, if the exam and imaging agree you're a candidate, your first treatment. Book the $49 DRX9000 consultation → · More on DRX9000 spinal decompression

Scrambler therapy

Built around one question: does it work for you?

Scrambler therapy is FDA-cleared, and insurers haven't made it a covered benefit yet. We'll check your plan anyway as part of free verification. The way in is designed so that finding out is never the obstacle.

Consultation: $19

About an hour, Monday through Thursday: roughly 30 minutes of consultation and 30 minutes of treatment.

Introductory session: $99

A real treatment session. Its job is to show whether you're a responder, and most patients who respond show it early.

If you respond

We talk about a full course, and you get the complete figure in writing before you commit to anything further.

The $99 comes off your course

Continue with a full course and your introductory session is credited toward it. Either way, you have a straight answer early.

Car accident injuries

Your first visit is $0 out of pocket.

After a wreck, auto coverage is built to go first, and we bill it for you. Silvia, our practice manager, works out which coverage applies to you and explains it in plain English before you leave.

  • PIP on your own auto policy, which pays regardless of who caused the crash.
  • The at-fault driver's liability insurance.
  • Uninsured motorist coverage on your own policy, if the other driver had none.
  • A letter of protection from your attorney. We accept them, with no special conditions.
  • Your health insurance, when it's the right one to use.

Chiropractic care

Usually covered, and set up around what you need.

With insurance

Most major plans cover chiropractic visits, and we bill Medicare for chiropractic too. Copays vary by plan, so we verify yours before your first appointment.

Without insurance

You'll know the visit price before you book. The first visit is a set fee, and X-rays are taken only when your case needs them, with the price reflecting whether they are. Visits after that are a lower set fee. Call and ask; the front desk gives you the numbers straight.

Six-visit packages, or one visit at a time

If you need a course of care, we usually set it up as a six-visit package. Some people only need a visit or two and pay one visit at a time. We decide that case by case, after your exam. CareCredit, Affirm and in-office payment plans are accepted.

Pain management procedures

Usually covered by insurance.

Pain management procedures, such as injections, are done here in our building by Praful C. Singh, M.D., and Lisa D. Persyn, M.D. Most insurance plans cover them. You may still owe your copay or deductible, and we check your coverage before anything is scheduled.

What you're actually deciding

The real question isn't the number. It's what getting better is worth.

Covered doesn't mean free. Ask what any option actually costs you, after the deductible, the coinsurance and the facility fee.

Then ask the question underneath it: what is it worth to get this fixed? Not managed. Not masked for another few months. Picking up your kid without calculating the angle first. Sleeping through the night. Sitting through a flight, a movie, a shift.

That's what this investment is for, and it's made without an incision, without hardware in your spine, without narcotics, and without closing a single door you have open today.

What to bring to your first visit

Bring your cards. We'll do the rest.

You don't need to understand your coverage before you come in. Most people don't. Bring these, and we'll verify your benefits as part of your visit:

  • Your insurance card, front and back
  • Your Medicare card and any secondary or supplement card, if you have them
  • For a car accident: your auto insurance card, and a claim number if you have one
  • A photo ID
  • Any MRI or CT reports you already have
The Texas Spine Clinic waiting room.
Monday–Thursday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. · 3212 Napier Park.

Questions patients actually ask

Cost and insurance questions

Does insurance cover spinal decompression?

The decompression program isn't a covered benefit under any plan. With commercial insurance, we can usually generate an insurance credit, which we apply against your cost. How big it is depends on your benefits. We verify your benefits free and tell you exactly where you stand before you commit.

Does Medicare cover spinal decompression?

No. If you also carry a secondary major health plan, we can usually generate an insurance credit through it, and we check that for you before you commit.

How much does the decompression program cost?

It depends on what your plan covers. The insurance credit we generate for you is the biggest variable, and we can't know it until we run it, free, for you. What we can promise is the part that matters: you'll have your exact investment in writing at your imaging review, before you commit to anything.

What does the $49 DRX9000 consultation include?

Three things: your initial examination, a review of your imaging with the doctor, and, if the exam and imaging confirm you're a candidate, your first treatment.

Why invest out of pocket when insurance covers surgery?

Because covered doesn't mean free: a covered surgery still runs through your deductible, your coinsurance and the facility fee. And decompression is care you drive home from. No incision, no anesthesia, no hardware, no hospital stay, and every other option you have today stays open.

How much does scrambler therapy cost?

The consultation is $19 and the introductory session is $99. If you respond, you get the full-course figure in writing before you commit, and the $99 is credited toward it.

Does insurance cover chiropractic care?

Usually, yes. Most major plans cover it, and we bill Medicare for chiropractic. We verify your copay before your first appointment.

How much does a chiropractor cost without insurance?

A set fee for the first visit and a lower set fee for visits after that. If you need a course of care, it's usually a six-visit package; otherwise you pay one visit at a time. Call (210) 741-9166 and the front desk will give you the exact numbers before you book.

Will car accident treatment cost me anything?

Your first visit is $0 out of pocket. We bill the coverage responsible for your accident, and we accept letters of protection. The full breakdown is here.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. We work with CareCredit and Affirm and offer in-office payment plans. For the decompression program, settling at the start earns a time-of-service discount. How you structure it is your call.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is needed for your first appointment, and if one is needed for subsequent visits, we will get it for you. Every patient can be seen the same day, Monday through Thursday.
